A global leader in the rare earths market

About Us

A leading name in Rare Earth element mining, concentrating, and refining for the past three decades, Lynas Corporation Ltd. currently maintains sophisticated facilities in Western Australia and Gebeng, Malaysia. Founded in 1983 by Nicholas Curtis, an executive with a strong background in the financial services industry, Lynas began its life as Yilgangi Gold NL. Two years later, the company changed its name to Lynas Corporation, after which it went public on the Australian Securities Exchange under the ticker symbol “LYC.” Since then, Lynas has undergone considerable growth and expansion, further narrowing its focus to opportunities in the Rare Earths mining and refining industries.

Today, Lynas Corporation owns and operates the Mount Weld mining site in Western Australia, widely considered one of the richest deposits of lanthanide oxides on the planet. Originally discovered in 1988, the Central Lanthanide Deposit at Mount Weld is thought to have formed from the decomposition of carbonatites from the Proterozoic eon. Recognizing the site’s vast mining potential, Lynas Corporation has taken substantial measures to harvest the estimated tens of millions of tons of minerals from Mount Weld, via both the Central Lanthanide Deposit and the Duncan Deposit. These deposits consist of heavy and light Rare Earth elements, including cerium, neodymium, praseodymium, samarium, gadolinium, yttrium, and europium.

Following the collection of Rare Earths at Mount Weld, Lynas Corporation concentrates the ore via an onsite concentration facility. The concentrate is subsequently refined at its Advanced Materials Plant in Malaysia. Lynas Corporation maintains its headquarters in Sydney.
